Art Contest Guidelines

WHO DO THESE CONTESTS BENEFIT?

  • ARTISTS….Contests are managed by GVL Art Gallery but takes place in various Upstate SC locations during events with large crowds to give artists the following opportunities: to be seen by hundreds of people, to be voted on by the general public for the chance to win $500, and to be for sale

  • ORGANIZATIONS…Contests are an interactive free way for existing event planners to enhance their events and cross-promote

  • GVL ART GALLERY…By hosting, it helps to promote GVL Art Gallery – a community of 30 local Greenville artists

  • GRAND PRIZE SPONSOR...your business name will be in front of hundreds of artists and voters throughout the application process, day of the event, and post event.

 

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA TO ENTER THESE CONTESTS?

  • Art should be original handmade 2D or 3D work

  • Photographers, Printmakers, & Digital Artists: If your process involves handmade work to achieve the completed visual, you may qualify to enter, but basic photography prints, art prints, and digital prints are not eligible.

  • Art should be 12”x12” or smaller and displayed either on a tabletop sized easel, a standing frame, or stand by itself.

  • You do not have to be a professional artist to enter. Anyone who creates art that falls under the guidelines can enter the contest

  • Artists must complete this online entry form and pay the $30 fee to GVL Art Gallery via Venmo. One entry allows for 2 art pieces, but Artists may enter as many pieces as they want. No refunds will be given once an entry fee is collected.

 

ART DROP OFF & PICK UP

  • Art entries & stands should be dropped off at GVL Art Gallery (14 S Main St Greenville, SC 29601) during open hours no later than 5 days before the event in the designated collection area

  • Art should be labeled clearly with the artist name, artwork title, medium, and price.

  • Artists are encouraged to wrap art to keep safe; however, packaging and bags that art is dropped off in is not guaranteed to be returned

  • Unsold art may be picked up at GVL Art Gallery during open hours within 5 days of after the contest has ended. Unclaimed artwork after this timeframe is subject to being discarded.

 

HOW IS ART DISPLAYED?

  • Art is displayed side by side on folding tables with black tablecloths in a prominent highly foot-trafficked area of the event

  • In front of each art piece is a tag with an assigned voting number, the artist name, the title, the medium, the price, and a QR code to purchase if desired

  • There is Directional and Voting signage surrounding the art display area showing where to enter to browse art and where to vote

HOW DOES VOTING WORK?

  • All art will include tags made by GVL Art Gallery which will include an assigned number used for voting

  • Eventgoers (adults and children) are each handed a voting ticket and asked to browse the display and vote for their favorite piece of art by writing the number of the chosen art piece on the voting ticket

  • Artists participating in the contest may not vote

  • Votes are counted at the end of the voting time frame and the winner is notified

 

HOW DO ART SALES WORK?

  • All art entries will be for sale during the event with a Venmo QR code on the tag for buyers to purchase

  • Buyers may pick up art after voting has ended

  • If a purchase is made, “SOLD” will be written on the tag and the buyers name and phone number will be collected to text them a reminder about pick up after voting

  • Sales are collected by GVL Art Gallery via Venmo and disbursed to the artists no later than the following day via Venmo. GVL Art Gallery DOES NOT KEEP A PERCENTAGE OF THE SALES.

 

HOW CAN YOUR BUSINESS GET INVOLVED?

  • GRAND PRIZE SPONSOR – This is a $500 investment and will include your logo on the following: the Voting and Directional Signage at the event, the GVL Art web site (with a hyperlink to your website), on the tags in front of each art piece, on all social media posts involving the event beforehand and after when the winner is announced.

 

  • EVENT LOCATION – If you run an established event that generally attracts hundreds or thousands of people and want to enhance it by including a GVL Art Gallery Small Art Contest, there is no fee. Contact Ashley Brickner at 864-787-9365
